Regular Business
A. Review Agenda
Chair Paul Soper reviewed the meeting agenda.
B. City Council Update
Mayor Studebaker gave an update on recent Council business:
• Looking at the demolition fee tomorrow night
• Looking at Parks and Rec bond priority in joint meeting with LOSD
C. LO Reads
Cyndie Glazer introduced the LO Reads program. The committee read 21 different books to choose from
and selected Rising:Dispatches from the New American Shore. Original suggestion came from Breck
Foster, a teacher at LOHS. Events committee is reading the book right now to figure out what events to
do in February. Events every day during the month. Would love a suggestion from SAB on an activity to
do during the month. The author will be speaking on March 4. Need to come up with an idea within the
next month to get it into the calendar.
Cyndie gave each SAB member a copy of the book to read.
D. Open Discussion
Paul open to sharing co-chair responsibility. We can discuss/vote at next meeting.
Discussed where we are on goals for this year:
• Bob-Working on deconstruction
• Richard-Gas powered lawn equipment-discussion going on NextDoor about leaf blowers. Hopes
there is some follow through on that and not forgotten. Lots of community interest
• Kathleen-American Green Zone Alliance interested in coming into Oregon. Looking for a grant
to cover fee for that.
• Stephanie- EV Ready Bus Barn
• Bob-charging stations in the City, where are we with multifamily policies? Paul explained that all
happens at the state level
• Discussed the senate bill 2001 to eliminate single family housing
• Brought up home energy scores and discussed whether Portland's plan was working
• Anna-Marie- Ella and Annamarie are the catalysts for all the action and a little worried about
how it will continue when they graduate.Want to get the certification so they can apply for
grants to keep going
• Ella- lack of new membership, and faculty not working with students. Staff not composting
anything in the kitchens. Going to meet with staff and administration about composting. LO has
the opposite situation because they have admin and janitorial support. There will be a talk
about the LO Reads book Rising at Lakeridge. Publicizing sustainability events to NHS for
volunteer hours.
• Anna-Marie- not much interest so far in the climate strike on Friday
Adjournment
Chair Paul Soper adjourned the meeting at 8:16 p.m.
