SUBMIT TO THE CITY RECORDER Good evening. My name is Beth Oliphant Hoover. I would like to extend my appreciation to our Mayor and Council for your leadership and service to the city and citizens. Thank you. It's truly a privilege to live in Lake Oswego . Tonight, I'd like to briefly table the proposed city & public school partnership to build a recreation center on the sight of the Lake Oswego Public Golf Course. Thank you for allowing me to share a bit of history that colors my perspective about the project. In 1866, my family ancestor, John Corse Trullinger, secured the first plat with Clackamas County which is now Lake Oswego . Inspired by Trullinger's pioneer spirit and love of Oswego, my dad, Doug Oliphant, volunteered 45 years of his life to public service including THE MUNI. In 2014, The Oliphant Community Golf Tournament was founded to inspire volunteer service and bless local charities including the MUNI. All ages and skill levels can play in the LO Public Golf Course golf tournaments. In six years, almost 800 charity golfers, sponsors, and volunteers have participated in The Oliphant. We are blessed to report nearly $50,000 has been gifted to LO Meals on Wheels, LO Transitional Shelter Ministry, the children of MIGA who play at the MUNI and this year, The LOPD Caring Cards Program. In addition to green fees and course services, The Oliphant makes an annual donation to the LO Public Course to enhance the golf experience . It's a city value to promote tourism . I believe it's noteworthy that The Oliphant invites sponsors to participate including: Chick-fil-A, Titleist, Rebound Orthopedic, Topgolf, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Dick's Sporting Goods, Bentley Seed CAMBRIDGE NY, Widmer Brothers, & Dave's Killer Bread to name just a few of the lOO's of sponsors over the last six years . We are honored and privileged to be part of the blessing to others. The LO Public Golf Course has been critical to the success of charitable giving in our community. While I recognize our tournament may not be of value to counsel or those who support a rec building, I am confident that you do support the community gathering we promote and wonderful benefit to local charities . If the course is reduced to 9 or 12 holes we will no longer be able to host The Oliphant Community Golf Tournament. Why is it necessary to destroy one of the historic jewels of the city, the only municipal golf courses i n town? There simply has to be other suitable location that promotes reclamation and revitalization vs destroying an irrep l aceable and open space .
