I would also like to submit the following suggested edits to the proposed "Issue Statement". To be included in the record. The City of Lake Oswego is committed to providing high quality services to every person living and working in and visitors to our community. As a local government that provides law enforcement services, we believe systematic racism needs to be evaluated in law enforcement in our city as-well-as nationwide. We are undertaking these community dialogs to identify ways to strengthen how our police department collaborates with all of the people living and working in our community and visitors to our city to provide public safety. We will thoroughly evaluate our systems, structures, policies, procedures, processes, and practices with the goal of building public trust and relationships, especially with the people living and working in our community and visitors to our city who have been or may be marginalized. As part of that process, we will seek feedback from past and/or current residents, workers, business owners and visitors, police officers, and elected officials, about their expectations and experiences with law enforcement in Lake Oswego. This feedback will enable us to strengthen good practices and identify areas where we can adapt and improve. Our vision is to ensure that we have a Police Department where a person's race nationality, religion, or manner of dress does not determine beginning and/or the outcome of their interaction with our POLICE officers and where all people feel safe.
