Dear Planning Department, I am writing to request that you disallow the applicant to run the sewer through the wetland in Waluga Park. The wetland provides important habitat for local wildlife. Without it, we would lose much of our local bird population, not to mention the displacement of mammals including raccoons and at least one coyote on adjacent land. I imagine that building on the lots in question would necessitate quite a bit of drainage, which would disrupt the local ecosystem for these animals. I understand the need for more housing, and for L.O. to meet its numbers of new housing units, but it would be a mistake to discount the impact that a functioning wetland and green space has on local water control and the quality of life for residents. What does "protection" for this wetland mean, if not that sewer lines should not be run through it? I also wonder whether homes built on these lots will be able to withstand an earthquake, since the soil is subject to seasonal liquefaction as it is. Thank you for your consideration.
