BACKGROUND
Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation Department (LOPR) is poised for some big changes in the
coming months with the opening of the Lake Oswego Recreation & Aquatics Center (LORAC)
and the re-opening of the Lake Oswego Golf Course.
The Department has been working on developing a recognizable brand identity that embodies
our authentic character and also embraces the core branding of the City of Lake Oswego. LOPR
started this process last fall with an internal committee, including representation from City
Council and the City Manager's office. The City contracted with Swell Co-Lab to guide the
process.

After gathering facts about the Department and looking ahead into the future, the committee
with guidance from Swell Co-Lab, developed an innovative approach to telling the community
who Parks & Rec is and what Parks & Rec does with visual design and a marketing strategy. The
committee narrowed down the designs and taglines to where the graphics live now.
On March 20, the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Advisory Board was presented with
information and gave enthusiastic support to the Department for the new brand and graphic
identity. Parks & Recreation staff will present the brand to Council before it goes "live" this
summer.
