Re: Written Public Comment for Joint Meeting with City Council and Lake
Oswego School Board
I strongly oppose the plans, proposals, ideas and options that have been
put forth before the School District's Long Range Facility Planning
committee including the City's "ideas" to move it's library and the creation
of a westside community center on the Lake Grove Elementary School
property.
Once again, the City initially described this as a "dialog for a possible
"partnership" with the School District. This "dialogue" has all to do with
the development of a work plan for the Council's 2024, Goal 5, Initiative 2.
But despite being labeled as "simple", the City has been at work spending
hours and hours of staff and consultant time and energy to justify this
extremely ambitious "idea"for another partnership opportunity.
I served on the Lake Grove Village Center Citizens Advisory committee and
the Boones Ferry Road Improvement Plan committee. While the
committees highly valued the notion of a library and community center,
we never envisioned that this would be at the expense of removing or
squeezing out Lake Grove Elementary School and it's outdoor ball fields at
their present location. But despite this, strong marketing and
manipulating actions by the Mayor, Council, City Manager and select
advisory board chairs have jumped on this partnership bandwagon.
