It is a moment of reflection, celebration, advocacy, recognizing the enduring spirit that has shaped our understanding of equality and acceptance. WHEREAS, we honor the legacy of those who stood at the forefront of the struggle for LGBTQI+ rights, notably commemorating the pivotal role played by Black and Latine trans women during the historic Stonewall Inn protests of 1969.Their bravery and determination ignited a movement that continues to propel us forward in the ongoing fight for civil rights and social justice. WHEREAS, as a city that values belonging and equality, we stand united in our commitment to advocate for, protect and uplift every member of the LGBTQI+ community in Lake Oswego. Our city embraces diversity, ensuring it is a sanctuary where LGBTQI+ youth and individuals can flourish without fear or discrimination. We applaud the efforts of student activists and community allies who champion inclusivity and drive policies that promote equal rights for all residents.Their dedication and passion exemplify the spirit of unity and progress that defines our collective journey toward a more just and equitable society. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,that we,the Lake Oswego City Council, proclaim June, 2024 as Pride Month. We invite all residents to join us in fostering a community where every person, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identify, experiences the full spectrum of dignity, rights and security that they inherently deserve.
