In the absence of Mayor Hughes, the regular meeting of the City Council:' -was
called -to order by President of the Council, Dr. Carl Stanley.
Minutes of previous meeting read.and approved...
Moved by Jones that Mr. Malmberg be given permission to dig and backfill the
ditch for the 473 feet sewer extension on "C" Ave. in accordance with the
engineer's plans, and that Joe ;Nemec be.instructed to install 8'+ pipe in accordance
with those plans; -,,also, that.the Recorder be authorized to reimburse Mr. Dorner
for his work in this connection; the $150.00 connection charge as established
by a previous council .(June 6, 1950) to be waived for.thoserconnecting to this
sewer extension. Seconded by Stidd,_ and passed unanimously.
Mr. Twohy's request for correction of drainage on Cedar St. was referred to
the Street Committee for study -and recommendation at next meeting.
Moved by Jones, seconded -by Wilson that Mr. Twohy's.request for deviation from
engineer's plans.for proposed sewer extension on Cedar St. be referred to
Sewer Committee. and City -Engineer.. Passed unanimously.
President of .the Council appointed Bender,and Stidd to..confer with Mr. Schiffer
in studying insurance appraisals and requirements and report at next meeting.
_ Upon..the recommendation of the. Committee previously appointed by the Mayor to
investigate and study the matter.of employing -a City Engineer, it was moved by
®. Stidd, seconded by Jones that City employ.Mr.-Ray Cruden for this position, with
direct control over the Streets, Water., Sewer, Park and Street Lighting Depart-
ments, and also serve as Building Inspector, at a salary of $600.00 per month,
and that in such capacity he be directly responsible to the City Council;
employment to begin October 7th, with the_usual employee benefits. Passed unanimously.
Moved by Stidd that Recorder be instructed to write letter to Mr. Bloodworth
advising him that as .of November.j, 1953,. ,his position as City Building Inspector
will be assumed by the City Engineer except for -those permits, which have not been
duly processed and completed. Seconded by Bender, and passed unanimously:
Sewer Committee will work with City Engineer on request of'Lou Dunis for sewer
extension on North Shore Road.
Request-of"Ralph Stearns'td dedicate portion of his property. along "G" Avenue
to the City for street purposes was referred to -Street Department and City Engineer.
Moved by Wilson, seconded by Bender that physical inventory of supplies and
assets be made by the City Engineer tattier than the Auditor. The Engineer to
keep perpetual inventory record. Passed unanimously.
Moved by Stidd that City approve Marie Andrews' request for black -topping the
area in front of her property (Oswego Lodge) to street line without establishing
a curb. Seconded by Wilson and passed unanimously.
Moved by Wilson, seconded by Jones that increase of salary for Municipal Judge
be turned over to the Finance Committee for consideration, and if increase is not

possible at this time, to consider this matter at the next Budget meetings.
Seconded by Jones, and passed unanimously.
Communication from Kiwanis Club read which indicated their desire for City
to hold the "Tot Lot Fund" for the time'being.
Moved by Jones that City Attorney draw up petition for signatures asking
State Game Commission to install boat landings at Patk; this will be
accompanied by Council Resolution to this effect. Seconded by Stidd, and
passed unanimously.

Moved by Wilson that salary of Vernon Peters (Police Dept.) be -increased
to $300.00 per month as of October 2rfd.- Seconded •by� Stidd and passed unanimously.
Moved by' Wilson; seconded by Stidd`that C: Ie" Turnell be" appointed as -Municipal
Judge in the absence of Wm.' A.- Knowles -- October 7th' to October .19'th-.
Seconded by Stidd and passed unanimously.
Moved by Wilson, seconded by'Rogers that application of -Chas. Needham
(Pinafore Restaurant) for Class B. liquor dispenser license be approved and
fee of 510:00 for consideration 'of this 'application be'waived'. Passed unanimously.
Moved by Wilson, seconded by Jones'that•new receipts and citation forms
(2000 of each) -- (numbers to begin at 1) be ordered printed for the Police
Department in order that''new program,be put'into effect. Passed unanimously.
Moved by Stidd, seconded by Bender that City remit to Pacific Auto Lease (as
"per contract) 2¢_per miles for',the 1215 miles•in excess of 40$'000 miles (allowed,with-
out charge) --used. by the Police car; ge: `:will :be: paid monthly during the
:.'duration of the contract --(2¢ per mile used during the month); "Passed unanimously

attend monthly President .Club•Meetings. Passed unanimously.'
Moved by Wilson that two walkie-talkie radios be purchased from city funds
for approximately $150.00: one to,be paid for from Special Reserve for
Police Equipment account,' and th'e other'" to -be paid 'for out of the Street,
Sewer and Water Funds, to be 'city property and available 'to any department for
emergency use. Secorided-by Jones -and passed unanimously.
