HomeMy WebLinkAboutApproved Minutes - 1952-06-03 PM0 June 3, 1952 Regular meeting of the City Council called to order by Mayor. Needham. Rogers absent. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Ken Hartung,,manager of the Lakeside Theater, inquired regarding the proposed ordinance to prohibit smoking in theaters. He was advised that the purpose of the ordinance was to prohibit smoking only in the auditorium, and that he could expect the cooperation of the -Police Department in the -enforcement of this regulation. City Attorney reported that he has not-'recei'ved a reply from the attorney for Mr. Myers regarding the offer -made by•the city ($17,000.00) for the property needed for the sewer disposal plant, and said he felt that it would probably be necessary to institute.condemnation proceedings. City Attorney also expressed an opinion to the effect that the Planning Commission has no jurisdiction in numbering houses outside of the city limits, but that this procedure should be regulated by the County Court. Ordinance No: 441 prohibiting smoking in the auditorium of theaters was read for the first time'and read for the second time by title only. Moved by Hughes, seconded by Bender that this ordinance be accepted as read. Passed unanimously. Resolution to exceed the 6% limitation and providing time and place for an election on this matter was read:' Moved by Hughes,' seconded by Papulski that this reso- lution be adopted. Motion passed unanimously. It was decided that Gerard Fahey and Audrey Campbell were to be retained as swim pool employees for the summer season. Moved by Bender that Fern Poff, water department employee, be bonded in the amount of $5..000-00,,'a§ recommended by City Auditor. Seconded by Hughes. Passed unanimously. It was decided that the Water Department and City Recorder's office will be closed on.Sat. forenoon, July 5th. Also, during vacation periods this office will be closed during -the lunch hour, from 12:00 to 1:00. Matter of congested parking condition on North Shore was discussed again. It was decided that the only -relief that could be suggested would be to prohibit parking in this district by ordinance, -so that°the matter could'be enforced by the Police Department. r Police and -Fire Department reports were read and: approved.
