I'm writing to the budget committee,to ensure that adequate funding has been budgeted to support our Park&
Recreation and our Police Department's Community Service Officer program. With the lake access being open at the
steps, those of us living on Lakewood Bay have seen an amazing increase violations of city/parks rules and regulations.
At the same time, we are told that there is limited city funding.
Walking along the Headlee Walkway this week the area between the fence and lake is being overrun by fisherman
trampling the waterfront vegetation. At the same time, the trash cans are along the walkway overflowing (Below). The
steps have boaters disregarding the newly posted rules. Bank fishermen are disregarded posted no fishing signs both at
Sundeleaf Plaza and Northshore bridge.
Have the budgets supporting education and if needed enforcement been increased to offset the City's decision that
direct effects both safety and livability. Specific area include:
• Full time staffing at the steps to education boater important Oswego Lake safety rules and guidelines along with
the park rules.
• Increased staffing at the Lakewood Bay parks to service the increased use and trash?
• Increased Park Rangers and/or CSOs to patrol both the Headlee Way and the Lakewood Bay waterfront parks?
Hearing "there is no money"from city officials just does not hold water. The city needs to step up and provide adequate
funding to ensure both the safety of people entering the lake and the livability of nearby homes.
