GREGG� Gun Violence Awareness Month
WHEREAS, every person deserves to live in a safe and peaceful community free from the threat
of gun violence; and
WHEREAS, gun violence continues to impact communities across the nation, causing
devastating loss of life, lasting trauma for survivors, families, first responders, healthcare
professionals, and entire neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, preventing gun violence requires collaboration among residents, educators,
healthcare providers, law enforcement, community organizations, elected officials, and
advocates committed to promoting safety, responsible firearm practices, conflict resolution,
and mental health awareness; and
WHEREAS, Gun Violence Awareness Month honors the lives of those lost to gun violence,
supports survivors and affected families, and raises awareness of the importance of
community-based solutions and violence prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, communities throughout the United States recognize the importance of education,
outreach, and meaningful action to reduce gun violence and create safer futures for all
residents; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lake Oswego is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive
community where all people can live, work, learn, and gather without fear of violence;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lake Oswego hereby
proclaims June 2026 as Gun Violence Awareness Month in the City of Lake Oswego and
encourages all residents to honor victims and survivors of gun violence, support prevention
efforts, and work together to build safer communities for everyone.
