HomeMy WebLinkAboutApproved Minutes - 2009-01-06 °f LAl[Of CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING '^�► \ MINUTES January 6, 2009 a«� Mayor Judie Hammerstad called the regular City Council meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2009, in the City Council Chambers, 380 A Avenue. Present: Mayor Hammerstad, Councilors Turchi, McPeak, Groznik, Hennagin, Jordan, and Johnson; Mayor-Elect Hoffman, Councilors-Elect Tierney, Olson and Moncrieff Staff Present:Alex McIntyre, City Manager; David Powell, City Attorney; Robyn Christie, City Recorder Youth Council: Olsoni, Hamachek, Dod, Kosloff, Cooper, Menashe, Silbert 3.1 Oath of Office Ms. Christie administered the Oath of Office to Councilors-Elect Tierney, Olson and Moncrieff. Ms. Christie administered the Oath of Office to Mayor-Elect Hoffman. Ms. Hammerstad commented that it has been a remarkable eight years. She thanked the Councilors for the opportunity to serve with them. She presented token gifts to the remaining Councilors. Mr. Groznik welcomed Sally Moncrieff. He said he enjoyed his service on the Council. He hoped to continue serving the community as a volunteer. At a recent Governor's conference he noted that Lake Oswego has a number of projects ready to go. Councilor Moncrieff thanked Mayor Hammerstad, Councilors Groznik, Turchi and McPeak for all of their hard work. It had been a pleasure to watch and learn from them. Mr. Turchi said he had enjoyed the last eight years. He thanked his wife Gwen, and the staff. It had been a remarkable eight years. Working with Judie Hammerstad was remarkable. From the beginning she really made their jobs easier. He welcomed Mary Olson. Councilor Olson thanked her family for supporting her and her campaign along with her friends and supporters. She appreciated the opportunity to serve the City. Ms. McPeak was first involved with the Arts Council and running for Council gave her very productive years. She thanked her husband for his support. She thanked staff for their hard work. She welcomed Bill Tierney. Councilor Tierney commented that he hoped that at the end of four years, he could say his participation made Lake Oswego better. He thanked his wife and children. He was excited, nervous, humbled and lucky. He recognized Council Candidates Jeff Gudman, Russell Jones, and Justin Luber who were in the audience. Ms. Hammerstad recognized Mayoral Candidate John Surrett in the audience. City Council Regular Meeting Minutes Page 1 of 2 January 6, 2009 Ms. Hammerstad was grateful to serve with such great staff. She thanked her husband for his support. She welcomed Mayor Elect Hoffman. Mayor Hoffman commented that he was grateful to be Lake Oswego's Mayor. Our city is what it has become because of community leadership by Judie Hammerstad, John Turchi, Ellie McPeak and Frank Groznik. He thanked them. He thanked his wife, family and friends. He spoke of new opportunities and new leadership. His focus will be on moving the city forward and strengthening the trust in local government. We will increase the transparency, outreach and engage the citizens. The challenges facing the community need the collective wisdom of all parts of the community. He and the Council welcomed the community's help. He looked forward to an exciting and prosperous 2009. 3.2 Election of Council President Mayor Hoffman requested a motion to nominate Council President. Councilor Hennagin nominated Councilor Jordan to serve as Council President. Councilor Johnson seconded the motion. A voice vote was taken, and the motion passed with Mayor Hoffman, Councilors Hennagin, Jordan, Johnson, Moncrieff, Olson, and Tierney voting "aye." [7-0] 4.
