From: Kim Gilmer,Parks&Recreation Director
Subject Parks&Recreation Comprehensive Plan
Date: November 22, 2002
ACTION
To request that the City Council move to accept the Parks&Recreation
Comprehensive Plan, previously referred to as the Parks&Recreation Master
Plan.
BACKGROUND
The Parks& Recreation Comprehensive Plan being considered for adoption
addresses the community's park and recreation needs by looking at the existing
inventory of parks and recreation facilities and forecasting demands for facilities
over the next ten to fifteen year period. The plan provides recommendations that
describe additional lands that should be purchased to meet future demand,as
well as the types of recreational facilities to be added and where those facilities
should be located in Lake Oswego to meet future needs.
The City Council held a work session on Monday, November 18 with the Parks
&Recreation Advisory Board and Tom Beckwith, the project consultant,to
discuss the Plan. Following the discussion,City Council moved to recommend
that a public hearing be held to consider adopting the Plan.
RECOMMENDATION
The City Council may:
1. Accept the Parks &Recreation Comprehensive plan.
2. Recommend further study be done.
3. Do not accept the Parks&Recreation Comprehensive plan.
Staff recommends option 1.
